Is moving away the best choice?

I have recently applied to my dream school Florida State University. I want to major in nursing and they have an amazing program. I always thought that if I got accepted I would go. However, I have been wondering if moving across the country would be the best choice for me. I have many family members in Florida that would help me if I went, but I can not help but wonder how moving away from my friends and immediate family would turn out. In addition, moving away would be very costly. With out of state tuition, room and board, and the endless plane tickets, it all adds up to a great amount of money. However, there are many ways to lower these costs. I also worry that I will hate being away. My friend moved to a college on the east coast and loves it, however my sister, in Arizona, really misses home. My biggest fear is that I drop out of school only because I am I little homesick. However, I am going to focus on getting accepted first. If I do get accepted , I think moving to Florida would be a great experience. I will be able to grow as a person. Not only will I learn to be more independent, I will be forced to make new friends and form bonds with people that will last a lifetime. I am very grateful my parents are allowing me to take this opportunity if it happens to come my way. However I can't help but wonder if moving away for college is really the best choice.

  1. Honestly, moving away from college can be scary. But, if you really want to get the full experience of college, you should do it. Money shouldn't be a factor and shouldn't hold you back from doing what you want to do. Yea it will be pricy, but in the end, the experience of staying at FSU and doing something you love is priceless. Of course you need to get accepted, but if you do, you can always apply for scholarships that could cover for most, if not all, of your tuition.

  2. I agree with Kai moving away to college can be scary challenging but can also be fun and exciting! Moving away from home can be a good experience or a bad experience it just depends on how you handle certain situations. It can be good by spending your money wisely and being mature enough to handle ur own business. moving away from home can also be very pricey. if you want to get the full college experience you can always use loans! they're not the best thing to use but they really help at the moment even though you will need to payback the money later. I was actually debating on whether to move away or not either but I decided not to go anywhere to far cause money...but like I said if you don't have a problem with money or if you want to loans to pay back the money later that's cool too!

  3. I agree with Kai and Katelynn because I do understand that being miles away from home can make you a bit emotional and of course it would take you a lot of time of getting used to because you aren't really familiar with being on your own yet. If Florida State is your dream school, then so be it. You shouldn't let anything get in the way of you pursuing your nursing career because in the end, it'll be like you paying your family back for all the things that they have done for you. Of course they want their child to succeed in life and if that means going away for the benefit of your future, then I don't see why you shouldn't go. It is completely normal to feel homesick and maybe you don't know, it could be a great experience to tell to your family.

  4. Hey Neighbor! Dang Sophia we are finally leaving Midway St. I hope you will attend your number 1 choice, FSU. Having met your family from Florida it's awesome knowing that you get to be around the ones that make you happy. Seems like paying may be an issue and I hope it isn't extreme to the point where you are unable to attend the school of your likening due to your financial situations. If you do attend FSU you are leaving Jackson (your little brother) all alone in the house :(. I think if you attend college in Florida it will finally allow to be as free as you would like. The best thing for you in my opinion is immersing yourself in a new environment away from your current life. There you will be able to meet new friends and recap your life with your family in Florida and it seems you are excited for it. So that being said Sophia follow your heart and attend FSU.-Bryan Tovar
