Net Neutrality? Brazy

So can someone please clear up this Net Neutrality deal? I have heard a lot about it and know some of the basics about it. But what happens when this thing goes into effect? What happens to all social media and the things that fall into that category? I heard that there would be certain packages to buy that include different categories of various social medias. Like one package would be Twitter, Yahoo, Myspace and a few others. How do you think this would be for us? Do you agree with the package idea? Personally, I think it's dumb because you're gonna be paying for programs that you don't even use. Like I'm gonna spend money on programs that have been out of service for years like Myspace. I guess that means everyone gotta hop on the Myspace wave again. This whole Net Neutrality thing is pointless and sounds like the only benefit from it is for the people who are making money off of it. But foreal can someone help with explaining the Net Neutrality to me because I don't understand it. THANKS!

Here is a CNN article that sums it up quickly without going into too much detail. Basically, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as Verizon, Time Warner, and Comcast will be able to slow or block channels to certain content on the internet and charge more to get full speed and full access. The bottom line for individual consumers is that full, fast web access will cost more. In the same way that cable companies charge for packages of specific channels, ISPs would charge extra for packages of content like streaming services, social media, news, searching, or whatever they like. It will also make it difficult for small companies to take off because it will be prohibitively expensive to have fast website because small companies might not be able to afford fast service.

  2. Honestly Kai, this is a lot to learn all at once. This whole net neutrality thing is kinda interesting to people only because we realized that it was going to affect us. I've been scrolling throughout twitter and I realized that many people have the concept of Net Neutrality misconstrued. Most of us believe that we will getting charged for online services that we use all the time. From what I've heard net neutrality is only three years old. So if we did not have it before, what's the issue now? I'm still interested about learning more. Many people think that since the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality, that it will go into effect the next day. The decision of the FCC still needs to go through congress and if it passes congress then it will probably go through other courts. Then this is when we should start to worry about any changes that will occur with the internet. I hope this whole thing turns out okay.
