I personally have never been trolled so I really have no idea what really happens. I have seen all the stuff on Twitter where people are posting the screenshots of what other people are telling them. It’s rough. Seeing everything that people say to anyone is disgusting! What women say to women. What men say to women and vice versa. It is so horrible. Because of the first amendment, no one will get in trouble for saying things like “Wow! You’re so fat. You should just kill yourself.” I think one of the worst things about this is that this could literally be anyone. They don’t even have to know you. Anyone is given the chance to take a try at your confidence and even if you block and report them, all they have to do is make a new account and come at you again. It's so hard to just avoid everything altogether. You’d have to completely withdraw from social media to stop the harassment. This way would keep you from receiving the comments full force. But this won’t solve everything, only stop for a while until you decide to come back.
I am on your boat too. I have never been trolled online (besides from a few weird dm's here and there). I agree with you that there really isn't anyways to stop trolling. Unless someone were to remove themselves completely its always going to be there. I sometimes wonder how people who are trolled constantly deal with it. I guess you have to learn to have a thick skin. I is hard to punish something that is technically free speech...if only there was a way to prevent internet harassment.

I agree with Emily, there is not really an official way to stop trolling but honestly I wish there was because there are so many harmful and hurtful things that get said on the internet that don't get traced back to who said it and why they said it. A good way to keep from watching people troll and having it done to you is staying off and away from the internet. I know it will be hard to do but it will all be worth it in the end when you don't have to be stressed out about everything that's going on around you. A couple times a month I take a break from the internet because I've learned about how toxic the internet really is and that's just something I would not want to be around during 2017-2018 I want all good vibes only.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you, trolling is especially evident in the twitter community. It is disturbing to see how people can be so mean to each other over the internet. Withdrawing completely from social media would be good for the people being attacked because it would stop the constant harmful comments. As Emily said, it is hard to stop trolls because of their right to free speech. However, I think people should be more considerate on what they say and how it will effect the person they are addressing.
